Governor Cuomo was at the Genesee Brew House in Rochester this afternoon to sign the so-called “brunch bill,” permitting sale of alcohol before noon on Sunday in New York restaurants.
The governor also announced a $9 million package of economic development funds and tax breaks to North American Breweries. It will modernize the Genesee Brewing Company plant…and also expand the Genesee Brew House at the High Fals with a museum and a meeting center in addition to the restaurant and craft brewery. North American CEO Kris Sirchio says his company is putting $38 million dollars into the project.
The bill signed by the governor makes the first major amendments to New York liquor laws since the end of Prohibition. It allows sale beginning at 10:00 a.m. Sundays. It also allows liquor stores to sell gift packages and does away with a lot of 1934-vintage red tape on breweries and wineries.
