Gates Police are searching for a man who allegedly tampered with evidence at the scene of a fatal drug overdose.

Police say Scott Pernesky was with his girlfriend, Jennifer Baker, at a motel on Buell Road when she died of a heroin overdose. Instead of 911, investigators say Pernesky hid the drugs that were still in the room and wrapped Baker’s body in sheets before fleeing from the room. He didn’t call 911.

Motel employees found the body a short time later.

Gates Police say they want people to know that a “Good Samaritan” law is now in effect that protects people who call 911 to report someone is overdosing.
