Gates Police say a predicate felon has been arrested for grand larceny after picking up the wallet dropped by an elderly woman in a store on Buffalo Road.
Chief James VanBrederode says intensive media coverage of the incident and the surveillance photo of a suspect picking up the wallet led the suspect to turn himself in.
Sixty-three-year-old Allen Russell of Rochester called the Gates PD and admitted to taking the wallet. Officers responded to his home where he turned the wallet over, minus the contents.
Russell was arraigned in Gates Court and sent to jail without bail because of two previous felony convictions.
