A 29-year-veteran of the Gates Fire Department died on Sunday of the effects of a bee sting.
Joe Manuse served as both a volunteer and then a paid firefighter with the department, fulfulling his lifelong ambition to be a firefighter. He served as fire prevention officer, and mostly recently as the department’s public information officer. His sudden passing shocked the public safety community.
Manuse was a graduate of Gates Chili High School and a lifelong Gates resident.
The Gates Fire District said in a statement that “Joe was an amazing leader, teacher, firefighter and father.” It asked that the Manuse family be kept in thought and prayer.
