Image result for Aykut Ozkaynak and Mary NeverettThe Gates couple previously charged with dumping their roommate’s body in Caledonia are now indicted for second degree murder.

Aykut Ozkaynak and Mary Neverett were both indicted on murder charges today in Livingston County Court, where they were previously charged with evidence tampering for disposing of Patrice Miller’s body and setting it on fire.

The new indictment charges the couple with deliberately causing Miller’s death before disposing of her body on the night of July 4th. According to the criminal complaint filed against her in court, Mary Neverett told investigators the murder “just happened” during a dispute between the roommates and Miller was strangled. She admitted the couple burned the body to get rid of the evidence and said “once we started, we couldn’t go back.”

They’re already being held on half-a-million dollars bail each for the evidence tampering charges. Judge Dennis Cohen continued that bail for the new charges.
