The new state budget says all school buses in New York are to be battery or fuel cell powered by 2035, and the Gates Chili Central School District is getting a head start with the purchase of two electric buses this spring. The purchase and installation of charging stations is being funded by $400,000 from the state, and the electric buses will replace two diesel powered buses in the fleet.
Gates already has public EV charging stations near the Gates Chili Performing Arts Center which can handle four EVs.
