The Rochester Fire Department says firefighters and the Rochester Police Bomb Squad removed a drum of gasoline from a vacant apartment building at 401 Ridgeway Avenue overnight.
First responders closed off a section of Ridgeway until early this morning after a passerby smelled gasoline around the vacant brick building and reported it. Firefighters went in, finding the metal drum and some other “suspicious objects.” They called the bomb squad which sent in a robot to check the building while police evacuated the closest neighbors and told others to shelter in place.
The street reopened about 4:45 a.m.
WHAM 1180 talk host Bob Lonsberry says sources told him there’s more to the story: wires, blasting caps and a timer were also found.
Arson investigators and police are continuing to probe the incident.
