Normally, the price of gasoline drops over the first three weeks of the year, but not this year.
The AAA says the average price for a gallon of gasoline across New York State is now $2,74, up four cents from last week. Prices have been rising at about that rate since the first of the year.
For Rochester, the regional average is now $2.69 a gallon. That’s up six cents over the past week. Buffalo is up three cents at $2.67 and Syracuse rose by six cents to match Rochester at $2.69.
The AAA says the Energy Information Administration’s weekly petroleum report shows gasoline inventories still rising…but also still nine billion barrels lower than this time last year. Prices for the last three years. This is the first time since 2014 that gasoline prices have gone up in January, possibly signalling higher prices this year.
