High gasoline demand and rising crude oil prices have teamed up to end the spring decline in prices at the gas pump.

As summer rolls in, the New York State average price for a gallon of regular is $2.87, up two cents from last week. That still beats the average of more than three dollars a year ago.

According to the AAA, the Rochester regional price is up five cents at $2.85; Buffalo is up two cents at $2.86 and Syracuse is up a nickel at $2.79.

The nation’s gasoline stockpile has been drawn down by high demand and the arrival of the summer driving season. A major refinery fire in Philadelphia has shut that plant down for a month, aso affecting gasoline prices.
