The AAA says gasoline prices are up to close out 2016. The final report for the year says the national average price for a gallon of unleaded regular is now $2.29 a gallon, and the New York State Average is $2.47.

Regional prices are in between, but all up over the past week. Rochester now averages $2.41 a gallon, up four cents in the last week. Buffalo is up two cents at $2.40 and Syracuse up three cents at $2.37.
AAA says the increases are mainly because the market expects the world oversupply of oil to tighten after OPEC’s deal to cut production that’s set to begin in January. But U.S. oil producers have added a dozen new oil rigs in the last week in reaction.
