Gasoline price increases leveled off across Western and Central New York regions over the last week. The AAA reports demand for gasoline fell nationwide over the last week from the record-high mid-April levels.
The New York State Average price was up one penny from last week, at $2.95 a gallon. In Rochester, the regional average is $2.88, also up a cent over the past week. Buffalo rose by four cents to $2.87 and Syracuse was unchanged at $2.92.
The statewide average is nearly 40 cents a gallon higher than it was a year ago.
The auto club says prices still rose a bit last week as refiners finished the switchover to summer blend gas, which costs more. Demand was flat for the second week in a row.
