Our two-year-long holiday from rising gasoline prices may be ending. For the first time since 2014, the AAA says the national average price for a gallon of unleaded regular has gone above what it was a year ago. It’s the first time that’s happened since July of 2014.

The Oil Price Information Service calls it the “gasoline eclipse” and says it happened over the weekend. They expect the gap to keep growing, which could have effects on the holiday shopping season.

The auto club says Rochester area prices were up two cents-per-gallon on average, to about $2.33. Buffalo was unchanged at $2.32 and Syracuse was up one cent at $2.29 a gallon.
