The AAA says gasoline prices may be getting ready to take a big leap in the spring, but for now they’ve been going down over the past week across Upstate New York.

The Auto Club says the statewide average of $2.73 per gallon is down three cents from last week. The Rochester regional average is $2.68, down by two cents. Buffalo is down one cent, also at $2.68, and Syracuse is down three cents, also at $2.68.

Prices are down because winter refinery maintenance is finished and U.S. oil production is up, thwarting OPEC’s effort to keep prices higher. But world gasoline demand is rising and some analysts are predicting a 20-cent-per-gallon or more jump by late spring.
