A mechanic working on a car at 31 Lake Avenue was severely burned when the gas tank exploded at about 5:00 p.m.

The Rochester Fire Department says the car was up on a lift and the victim was removing the tank when the gas line came loose and sprayed gasoline around the work area. It was ignited by a work lite and exploded.

The victim suffered second degree burns to his face and arms. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital
