The price of gasoline in the Rochester area has risen by ten cents a gallon over the last week, up to an average of $2.77 a gallon for the five-county region around Rochester.

In the meantime, the AAA says unleaded gas is up 30 cents a gallon over the past two weeks since Hurricane Harvey hit Texas. Hurricane Irma is also doing its part to keep them high. The national average is now $2.67 and the New York State average is $2.83.

Buffalo’s average gas price is up by 11 cents and Syracuse is up by eight cents over the past week.

The Auto Club says things started to level out after Harvey as refineries in Texas were able to start up again. Then Irma forced massive increases in fuel demand as the storm approached and people decided to evacuate. Prices should stabilize once Texas gets its transportation systems fully back in order and refineries are back to capacity.
