The national average price for a gallon of gasoline dropped by a penny over the last week but was unchanged in Rochester and across most of New York State.

The national average for regular, unleaded gas is now $2.83. Rochester is at $2.92 a gallon, Syracuse is $2.89 and Buffalo is at $2.99. All of those prices are unchanged from last week.

The Auto Club says there were no problems at the pumps for the holiday weekend. Now that Labor Day is behind us, they expect prices to fall to as low as $2.70 a gallon as long as nothing interferes with crude oil prices. That’s because demand is falling, supply is high, and the switchover to the cheaper winter-blend gas is starting.
