Gasoline prices were unchanged in Central and Western New York over the past week, but that could change fast as now Tropical Storm Harvey continues to let record amounts of rain fall on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Many of the nation’s biggest oil refineries are there, and had to shut down as Hurricane Harvey approached. If flooding keeps them closed or slows down their operations, the current oversupply of gasoline nationwide could be drawn down and prices start to rise again.
The AAA says so far, that’s only happening in the immediate area of the storm.
Rochester’s regional gasoline price is currently unchanged at $2.41 a gallon for unleaded regular. Buffalo is $2.43 and Syracuse is at $2.37, also unchanged.
