Gasoline prices in the Rochester area have surged by an average of six cents per gallon over the last week.

According to the AAA, the statewide average is now $2.96, up seven cents from last week. The Rochester regional price is now $2.88, up six cents. Buffalo is up six cents at $2.87 and Syracuse up seven cents at $2.88.

AAA says this is because of reduced gasoline stock levels and the switchover to the more expensive summer blend gas. Gasoline production is also down because of summer maintenance at refineries.
