The statewide average price for gasoline topped $4.00 a gallon on Thursday according to the AAA. And there’s no end in sight.

The national average stands at $3.84, up 23 cents since Monday. A year ago, it was $2.75. New York State now has an average prices of $4.05, up by 25 cents since Monday. Rochester’s regional average is $4.06. up 27 cents since Monday. Buffalo is at $4.03, up 28 cents and Syracuse is at $4.03, up 28 cents since Monday.

Oil hit $110 per barrel on Friday morning, the highest level in more than a decade and driven largely by the fighting in Ukraine. The price will likely continue to rise as sanctions are imposed on Russia, even if import of Russian oil is not banned outright
