Gasoline prices suddenly surged in Rochester over the past week, up by four cents a gallon to a region-wide average of $2.96.

The AAA says this post-Labor Day price spike won’t last as demand for travel drops off with the fall and the cheaper winter blend gasoline reaches dealers.

Buffalo gas prices were unchanged at an average ot $2.99 per gallon, and Syracuse is up a nickel per gallon at $2.94.

The New York State Average is an even $3.00 per gallon for unleaded regular.
