A joint investigation between the Monroe, Ontario and Livingston County sheriff’s offices has led to the arrest of a gang believed responsible for a string of car breakins when the victims were at their lowest moments.
The gang checked the obituaries for funeral times, then broke into the cars parked outside. Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn and Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty say they’re believe be responsible for at least 50 such incidents. They call the gang “despicable.”
The investigation which also included Greece and Webster Police led to the arrests of Bruce Newton, Cearra Campbell and Chelsea O’Hare. They’re charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and criminal mischief and more charges are said to be coming.
Newton is said to be the ringleader, who used the two women to buy electronics with the stolen cash and credit cards. Police waited until the gang showed up at a Best Buy and used stolen cards, then moved in and arrested them.
