A Norfolk Southern Railroad freight train has derailed in Attica in Wyoming County, leaving freight cars toppled and the locomotives on fire. A column of smoke could be seen. The crash happened off East Main Road outside the village in a rural area.
The Engineer reportedly suffered a broken leg and the train’s Conductor escaped without injury. A track washout apparently caused the derailment. A Norfolk Southern spokesman says there are no hazardous materials on the train, which was made up mostly of new car carriers.
First responders have closed off the entire area.
