Bills GM Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott have committed to a relentless pursuit of upgrading their roster whenever an opportunity presents itself. Veteran receiver Anquan Boldin could be the latest opportunity. The free agent wideout paid a visit to the Bills on Monday.
Reports first surfaced over the weekend that the receiver would be meeting with the coaching staff and front office in Orchard Park. Boldin, who is set to turn 37 in October, played last season for Detroit and proved to be an effective complementary weapon. He finished second on the team in receptions with 67 catches, and led the Lions in touchdowns with eight.
Despite being a 14-year vet, Boldin proved durable last season. He appeared in all 16 games and was on the field for 80 percent of the Lions’ snaps on offense.
Boldin is a former teammate of Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor, as the two were teammates in Baltimore for two seasons including the Ravens Super Bowl-winning season of 2012.
Where Boldin would fit on Buffalo’s depth chart at receiver is difficult to peg with what is largely a jumble behind top wideout Sammy Watkins.
But if he did sign with Buffalo, he’d be a welcome veteran presence and provide an additional red zone threat in the passing game.
