Mayor Lovely Warren and other officials joined members of the Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Commemorative Committee Thursday morning to unveil the first in a series of monuments around Rocester that pay tribute to the famous abolitionist and civil rights advocate.
The life-sized statues of Frederick Douglass were sculpted by artist Olivia Kim. The first was installed with appropriate pomp and circumstance outside the Hochstein School of Music in downtown Rochester.
Douglass spent his most active years in Rochester and published his “North Star” newspaper here.
