The four defendants who went to trial on charges of kidnapping a pair of University of Rochester students have been found guilty on numerous charges.
Five other defendants agreed to plea deals and some of them will be sentenced beginning later this week.
Lydell Strickland, identified as one of the ringleaders of the plot, was convicted on 28 of 31 charges. They include kidnapping, assault, gang assault and robbery.
David Alcarez-Ubiles was found guilty of kidnapping and weapons possession, but was acquitted on assault charges. He insisted he never took part in torturing the two kidnapped students, as did Inallia Rolldan and Ruth Lora.
Rolldan collapsed in the courtroom when her guilty verdict was announced, delaying the fourth verdict by about a half an hour while medical personnel were brought in.
Prosecutors said the two U of R football team members were caught up in a case of mistaken identity. The plotters wanted revenge on two students they believed had robbed and beaten a drug dealer, but they got the wrong men.
