Former Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner is running for Governor of New York, not as a Democrat or a Republican, but representing the first candidate of the “Serve America Movement.”
SAM is a new political party, formed by people dissatisfied with their current choices. Miner says in a statement that the American political process is broken and needs to be changed from outside. If Miner gets enough votes in a statewide election, the new party would be granted ballot status for the next four years.
Miner was once an ally of Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, but became disaffected from the Governor’s policies about five years ago.
Asked by the New York Times if she wasn’t playing the role of a spoiler, Miner said the status quo needs to be spoiled and ended.
