The special investigator hired by the Rochester City Council to study the death of Daniel Prude says Rochester’s former police chief is refusing to testify or supply documents subpoenaed as part of the investigation.
Investigator Andrew Celli says his office subpoenaed former Chief La’ron Singletary, who through his attorney declined to provide the related documents or to testify. Singletary’s attorney said in a letter that the chief objects because he’s no longer employed by the city. The attorney says the former chief might testify after the mayor and other current city officials are deposed.
Celli’s office says last week it received hundreds of thousands of documents from the city last week.
Daniel Prude died after being restrained by Rochester Police on March 23rd, but his death did not become public until the end of September. Singletary announced he would retire, but was then fired by Mayor Lovely Warren.
