jim-sheppard-headshotMonroe County Legislator Jim Sheppard says he’s one of the people whose local passport fee was waived by the County Clerk’s Office. At the time, Sheppard was Rochester’s police chief.

He says in a statement that he went down to the clerk’s office and paid the $25 fee today.

He says he did not ask any questions when he was told the fee was waived because of his profession.  He says paying it today was important to him whether the fee was legally waived because he was in law enforcement or not.

County Clerk’s Adam Bello  says more than 600 people received fee waivers for passports and pistol permits from the former County Clerk — and one company paid no fees for records searches.

Nearly 20 people went to the office today to pay waived fees.
