A former Perinton resident and town employee has been accused of murder in a cold case in Missouri.

Lawrence Timmons, 65, lived in Perinton for ten years from 2004 to 2014. He worked as a real estate agent and a part-time watchman for the town parks system. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says during that time, he was hiding a past that included prison time for kidnapping and assaulting a child.

Officials in the Lawrence Co., Missouri Sheriff’s Office said a murder indictment was handed down against Timmons on Friday, accusing him in the 1988 death of Cynthia Smith in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Smith reportedly went missing after dropping off her children at her babysitter. Her remains were later found in a rural cemetery.

Timmons is now reportedly a suspect in that crime and several others in that state.

Monroe County deputies have been looking into unsolved cases during the ten years Timmons lived here, but so far have not found any evidence that he was involved in any crimes here.
