Former Monroe County Executive Tom Frey has died this morning of pancreatic cancer. He passed at the Isaiah House hospice facility.
He’s the only Democrat ever to have held the job, beating Republican Lou Morin in 1987, and then losing the seat to Republican Bob King in 1991 after serving a single term. Prior to that, he was a New York State Assemblyman.
Frey reflected on his life in an in-depth interview in December with the “Democrat and Chronicle” in which he acknowledged he was dying. He said he was ready….and had a good life.
Frey was able to attend a gathering in celebration of his life three weeks ago at St. Michael’s Church in Rochester attended by many business, political and community leaders; people whom Frey dealt with over the years.
