Former Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson called Wednesday for a “cease fire” between demonstrators against the death of Daniel Prude and Rochester police.
The former mayor is co-chair of the Commission on Racial and Structural Equity (RASE). In a news conference, Johnson called for representatives of both sides to come together for a mediated constructive conversation. Johnson says he sees the city slowly devolving into chaos with nightly protests and retirements of top police officials following Prude’s death.
Johnson says don’t defund the police, reform the police.
