Irondequoit Supervisor Dave Seely swung a sledgehammer into a column of the former Medley Centre Mall Wednesday for a “wall breaking” that signifies start of the Irondequoit Community Center project.
42,000 square feet of what’s now called Skyview on the Ridge will become the town’s new community center, with a gym, fitness center and community meeting spaces. The space has been empty for 15 years since the mall closed its doors.
Since developer Angelo Ingrassia bought the mall, changes have been coming. Exterior and roof repairs are now underway in addition to the renovations inside. Pathstone Development is turning the former Sears into senior citizen housing, and Saint Anne’s Community will open adult day care services in the former Ruby Tuesday’s space.
Continuum Global Services occupies the former Macy’s store.
