Former Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary and the City of Rochester have reached a settlement on the suit filed by Singletary after he was fired by former Mayor Lovely Warren in 2020.

Warren said Singletary had lied to her about the Daniel Prude death case. Singletary said he was fired because the former mayor ordered him to lie about the Prude case to the public, and he refused. He sued the city for $1.5 million, claiming defamation of character and unjust firing.

The city this week released details of the settlement which became effective Friday. It pays Singletary $75,000 and restores his healthcare coverage in exchange for his dropping the suit.

Singletary is now a Republican candidate for Congress.
