The Buffalo Bills fired long-time front office member Doug Whaley and several others from the team’s scouting department on late April of 2017. In June, Whaley officially found a replacement for the Bills as the NFLPA named him their college scouting director.
With Whaley moving on, we now have a Bills – Buffalo Sabres crossover. According to the Buffalo News, Whaley sold his Buffalo home to Sabres’ star forward Jack Eichel.
In October 2017, Eichel, signed an eight-year, $80 million extension. With the a few extra bucks sitting around, Eichel purchase the home from Whaley for $985,000, per the Erie County Clerk’s Office. Whaley purchased the house in June 2016 for $752,000.
The three-story townhouse with four bedrooms is located on Ojibwa Circle near the Erie Basin Marina. Per the News, the home is 3,451 square feet.
Eichel was the second-overall selection of the Sabres at the 2015 NHL draft. Whaley, 45, joined the Bills from the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010 becoming Buffalo’s assistant general manager. In 2013, Whaley was promoted to general manager, replacing Buddy Nix.
In January 2016, Terry and Kim Pegula, who own both the Bills and Sabres, signed Whaley to a contract extension, only to fire him just over a year later in April 2017, shortly after hiring Sean McDermott as the Bills’ head coach.
Brandon Beane was eventually hired as the Bills’ general manager, replacing Whaley. McDermott and Beane both worked together for the Carolina Panthers prior to joining the Bills.
