The Republican Committee Chairs of Monroe, Livingston and Steuben Counties met over dinner this evening in Geneseo, and came out naming former New York Assemblyman Joe Errigo as their candidate for the 133rd Assembly District.
Errigo replaces Bill Nojay, who died on Friday but ended up winning this week’s primary election anyway. Reilich says the party chairs considered about eight different candidates. The chairmen declined to name them, but say Errigo approached them as a consensus candidate and they agreed.
Errigo is a Livingston County resident who is already known to voters in most of the district. He served the old 130th District from 2000 to 2010, deciding not to seek re-election after the 2010 redistricting.
Monroe County GOP Chairman Bill Reilich says they needed someone with known conservative credentials and who is a recognized supporter of the Second Amendment to run in the heavily Republican and Conservative 133rd. He says Joe Errigo is that candidate.
Republican Rick Milne pulled his name out of consideration as a candidate earlier in the day after losing the primary to Nojay’s memory.
Democrats are running attorney Barbara Baer for the seat.
