State Police have arrested a Livonia village trustee and charged her with possessing forged nominating petitions.

They charged 22-year-old Shannon Dougherty with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, which is a felony. Police say she unlawfully possessed Livingston County Conservative, Republican and Independence Party nominating petitions with forged signatures on them. They say her intent was to defraud the Livingston County Board of Elections.

Doughtery has been arraigned in Geneseo Court and released on her own recognizance. The case will be presented to a grand jury and may result in further charges.

Dougherty is the cousin of Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, who is not involved in the investigation.
