Foodlink, the non-profit anti hunger agency, marked its 40th anniversary this week in Rochester, NY.
On December 19, 1978, Fooklink founder Tom Ferraro collected a busload of Thomas’ English Muffins from their local distributor before they were due to be trashed. He delivered them to local soup kitchens and food pantries. From that beginning grew an agency that provides surplus food to feed the hungry at dozens of agencies and programs around the entire Rochester region. It also administers a series of educational programs, community kitchens, an urban farm and a food career training program.
Ferraro died of cancer in 2014 after building Foodlink into an agency serving 10 counties.
