Wind-driven waves have again forced Greece Police to shut down parts of Edgemere Drive along the Lake Ontario shore.
The closings are from Dewey Avenue west to Island Cottage Road, from Island Cottage west to Long Pond Road, and from Lowden Point Road to East Manitou Road.
The photo shows Edgemere at Dewey. Edgemere Drive at the bottom of the hill is under water. That’s also the location of a Monroe County Water Authority pumping station. It’s protected by flood barriers installed after Hurricane Sandy, and officials say the vital equipment is two to three feet above the water. They’re checking every eight hours to make sure everything is still OK.
The department is asking that no unnecessary travel be made along Edgemere Drive in Greece. Flooding conditions may get worse at any time as the northeast winds continue.
The Lake Shore Property Owners Association met Thursday evening at the Lakeshore Community Church in Greece, where town officials asked homeowners to keep records of the damages they’ve suffered. The town is trying to build a case for state and federal aid. They handed out forms to home and business owners for them to use in helping build their case.
