The Lake Ontario flood warning was canceled shortly before 4:00 a.m. by the National Weather Service, with meteorologists saying the northeast winds eased off sooner than expected. But the Town of Greece still has its emergency declaration in place as wind-driven waves flooded Edgemere Drive and other shoreline areas Tuesday evening.

Police had Edgemere blocked off west of Dewey Avenue, with parts of the section between Dewey and Island Cottage Road completely submerged. Waves were touching the bottom of the Beach Avenue bridge over Slater Creek Tuesday evening, and crashing up the creek onto the fishing access. The water was up to the edge of the parking lot there.

Water came up to the boardwalk at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte. Very little beach is left, and Monroe County parks officials postponed the start of the Concerts By The Shore until next week.

As for shoreline homeowners living behind walls of sandbags, their only consolation was that at least this latest round of wave action was brief.
