The State Assembly has approved a bill to speed up emergency flood aid to local governments and has sent it to Governor Cuomo for his signature.
The bill, which has already passed the senate, helps refund money county, town and village governments had to pay to protect or rebuild infrastructure damaged by the flooding.
Orleans County Assemblyman Steven Hawley says this will let local governments apply for aid almost immediately, rather than waiting until August. He also says this is just a start. More legislation is working its way through the system that targets help to lakeshore home and small business owners for the damage they’re suffering.
