WNY will face Carli Lloyd and the Houston Dash on Saturday, Aug. 27.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Western New York Flash (8-5-2) will be returning from the National Women’s Soccer League’s Olympic Break to host Carli Lloyd and the Houston Dash (3-8-3) on Saturday evening for the team’s sixth-annual Pink Game. The match will benefit the Cancer Couch Foundation, a non-profit that will fund research for Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer and start a local fund at Strong Memorial Hospital for metastatic breast cancer patients.
The Flash have been one of the top teams in the league this season, led by breakout performances from Jessica McDonald and Lynn Williams. The team has amassed a league-leading 29 goals, with the duo of forwards combining for 15 goals – a number that exceeds the totals of five NWSL teams.
Before the match, local female leaders and celebrities will walk out with local breast cancer survivors when they lead the teams out on the field. In addition, the honorary coin toss will be performed by Golisano Children’s Hospital patients.
This match will be the first game back for the eleven Olympic players from both teams. The Flash’s four Olympic players and the Dash’s seven – including the United States Women’s National Team Captain Carli Lloyd – are all expected to play.
Fans will have the opportunity to win game-worn pink jerseys from both teams, personal gift baskets from Flash players, and prize packs from local community partners. Raffle items include four couches, gift cards to top restaurants, overnight stays at local hotels, sports memorabilia, and more! Additionally, the first 500 fans through the gates will receive custom thundersticks, courtesy of UR Medicine! Gates open at 6 p.m.
