The owners of the James Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Oswego County have reached agreement to sell it to new operators. The $110 million dollar deal ensures the plant will keep operating beyond January, when Entergy Corporation had planned to shut it down.
Exelon Generation is buying Fitzpatrick. According to Governor Cuomo’s office, all 600 employees will keep their jobs. The governor says thousands of other jobs around the eastern end of Lake Ontario also depend on those high-paying nuclear plant jobs.
State and federal regulators will have to approve the deal, including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
