A two-alarm fire heavily damaged an apartment building on Lyell Avenue in Rochester on Sunday evening.

The alarm went out about 5:20 p.m., with people running to the nearby Engine 5 Firehouse as engines were being dispatched. They arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the three-story building. Occupants were making their way out as firefighters went in with a hose line.

A second alarm was called due to the size of the building and the location of the fire. Two searches were made to make sure everyone was out. All 10 occupants of the building got out safely and nobody was hurt.

The fire was contained to one apartment, but there was heavy smoke and water damage to the rest of the building.
