“Dynamic Staffing” is now in place for the Rochester Fire Department, meaning some fire houses will be closed on a rotating basis.
Monday night it was Engine 1 on Monroe Avenue, closed from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 Tuesday morning.
The cost cutting measure in the new city budget requires other fire houses to cover for the one that’s closed. The firefighter’s union and several neighborhood groups protested the move Monday night, saying they’re afraid of losing a quick response to emergency situations.
The Rochester Firefighters Association, Local 1071 issued a statement saying it has grave concerns about the staffing model and it will be gathering feedback from the community in the coming weeks.
