Rochester firefighters arrived at a report of a house fire on Elmdorf Avenue  off Genesee Street early Wednesday morning to find a two-and-a-half story single family house on fire, with flames coming from the rear where the fire apparently began in an air conditioning unit.

Two adults and four children escaped before the fire department arrived. They were able to protect the neighboring property and knock down the fire, which had extended into the house’s second floor and attic. Both floors were extensively damaged and the neighboring home had heat damage to its siding.

The occupants were forced to leave the home and were being assisted by the Red Cross.
