Fire heavily damaged a log home in Wayne County early Sunday morning, forcing a family of three to find temporary housing.
New York State Police say a man was stoking his woodburning stove about 2:00 in the morning when hot embers fell out onto a rug and caught fire. The flames spread faster than the homeowner could get water and get back and he was unable to douse them.
The cabin was in a wooded area off Trimble Road in Ontario, but fire departments that responded had hydrant access and were able to get water on the fire quickly.
Nobody was hurt.
