A fire at the corner of Portland Avenue and Roycroft Drive in Rochester is under investigation. A Rochester Fire Department spokeswoman says the fire broke out shortly after midnight early this morning in a double-family home attached to a corner store.
The fire was quickly raised to a second alarm because of the size of the building and the large amount of smoke and fire. Everyone managed to get out of the two apartments safely, although three people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The food mart was heavily damaged but quick action by firefighters saved the building. The fire was under control within 90 minutes, and the Red Cross is assisting seven adults and six children find alternate housing.
