Everyone escaped safely when an apartment house went up in flames late Sunday night on the 1100 Block of Monroe Avenue.
Battalion Chief James Hartman says a passerby called 911 after seeing flames on the third floor of the building just before 11 p.m. Other calls came in as firefighters were responding and a full response was sent.
Crews attacked the fire from the inside while simultaneously searching to make sure all the tenants were out. They contained the fire to the room where it started and had it under control within half an hour.
The Red Cross was assisting three people and a child with alternative housing. Monroe Avenue was closed at the scene until just past midnight.
