Working smoke alarms alerted the residents of a rooming house on Lyell Avenue to a fire Thursday afternoon. One person was treated for smoke inhalation after three people were rescued from the building by firefighters. One firefighter was injured.

The Rochester Fire Department says they’re looking for what caused the blaze near the corner of Lyell Avenue and Mt. Read Blvd. They say the room where the fire started had “advanced hoarding conditions,” making it hard to get a hose line inside.

Damage was confined to that one room with smoke damage to the rest of the building.
