The Rochester Fire Department says a domestic incident led to a fire at the Hamilton Apartments in Rochester.
Police on scene alerted the fire department to the blaze on the fourth floor at about 5:40 Monday morning. Police had been on the scene for the disturbance call and had taken a person into custody when the found the blaze. The building fire alarm system activated, and police began evacuating fourth floor residents.
Meanwhile, the fire department arrived and quickly extinguished the fire, but due to the volume of smoke and size of the building they called a second alarm. The smoke was quickly vented and the fire was confined to the apartment where it started.
All occupants of the building were able to return to their apartments, and the fire investigation unit is looking into what caused the fire.
